CITATION
BRONZE STAR MEDAL
Technician Fourth Grade CHARLES B. STAUB, 36006321, Calvalry, Troop
B, 32nd Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (Mechanized), United States
Army. For Heroic achievement in connection with military operations
against an enemy of the United States in Luxembourg on 5 November
1944. While participating in an attack, Technician Fourth Grade
STAUB was wounded and proceeded to withdraw to friendly lines.
Enroute, despite his wounds and constant heavy enemy artillery and
mortar fire, he rendered first aid to another wounded soldier and
attempted to evacuate him. However, due to his progressive weakness
Technician Fourth Grade STAUB abandoned this task, crawled to his
assembly point and before accepting first aid for himself, instructed
medical aid men in the location of the wounded soldier he had
attempted to assist. The courage and fortitude displayed by
Technician Fourth Grade STAUB reflect great credit upon himself and
the military forces of the United States.
This is also what he received the Purple Heart for.
It was awarded
on November 5, 1944.
